Who do you need info on in reference to Prison or civil war? -: Pvt. Franz Spamer
Your Question or Comment !! -: After Franz Spamer immigrated from Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany, he enlisted in the 11th Mass. Infantry June 13, 1861. He participated in the first battle of Bull Run (July 21, 1861). He was wounded in the side by an armored ball and taken prisoner by the Confederate Cavalry. His NARA record indicates that he was thought to have been killed on the battlefield. Franz Spamer was actually held prisoner for 10 months and 10 days in the following Southern prisons: Richmond, Virginia; Tuscaloosa and Salisbury, N.C. He was exchanged on Parole. His NARA records indicate that he deserted at Annapolis, MD 20 Aug 1862. He applied for a Pension but was denied because there was no record of an honorable discharge. His name is misspelled in the list of POW's. His name is shown as Specmer, K. 11th Mass. It should be spelled: Spamer, F.

Who do you need info on in reference to Prison or civil war? -: John Blain
Your Question or Comment !! -: John Blain was enrolled in 1861 in the Union army at Chambersburg Pa and served with the 1ST and 190th Regiments Pennsylvania Infantry. He was taken prisoner at the battle of Weldon Railroad in 1864 where he had been wounded in the hand and then was transported to Salisbury NC Prison. I cannot find him listed as a prisoner on this websight but his Civil War Pension application includes numerous references to his imprisonment. Are there any journals, diaries or other records in existence referencing John Blain? He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1865 as a 1ST Sergeant and returned to his home in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania that year.
